#1 of 4 · Fastest sensory nerve fibers
Health & medicine · Ranked by conduction velocity
This list is the conduction speed of a human sensory nerve-fiber class, in metres per second, when three references print the same range. Aα sensory fibers, the Ia and Ib afferents, are 80 to 120. Aβ fibers are 35 to 75. Aδ fibers are 5 to 30. C fibers are 0.5 to 2. Each row shows that whole range. The rank uses the top, which puts them in the same order the bottom would.
4 sensory nerve fibers, ties share a rank.
Muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs
Touch and secondary muscle spindles
First pain, touch, and temperature
Slow pain and warmth
The tables are Casey Henley's Foundations of Neuroscience, Table 23.1; River Publishers' Table 2.1 in Neurobiology of Pain; and Table 17.3 in Fundamental Neuroscience for Basic and Clinical Applications. Other open-textbook copies of the Henley chapter are the same book. The Haines table also prints motor Aα fibers at 72 to 120 metres per second. This list keeps the sensory range the tables share.
Guyton and Hall print Aβ tactile fibers at 30 to 70, and an NCBI Bookshelf chapter prints Aβ at 33 to 75. Those bands stay in the notes. They do not change the ranked range. Four rows stay under the index gate.
