Why it's so fast

Game data

Mega Sceptile sits here because the games give its Mega Evolution a base Speed of 145. That integer is a battle stat. The explanation is game lore, not a running speed.

  1. A stat, not a stopwatch

Base Speed is the number a battle uses before natures, items and stages. PokéAPI, Bulbapedia and Serebii agree on 145 for Mega Sceptile. None of them timed an animal.

  2. A Mega that leans into Speed

Mega Sceptile grows the tail blade the games show and shifts its base stats, Speed included. The forest-lizard lore stays. The row exists because the Mega stat block is not the base one.

  3. Mega Evolution

Mega Sceptile is Sceptile's Mega Evolution. The games publish a separate stat block, so it is not folded into the base form.

Nearby on the base Speed list: Mega Beedrill and Zeraora. Same kind of stat. Different lore.
