Lucid Air Sapphire

The ranked time is Car and Driver's standard 2024 test on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, not the separate prepped-strip run.

0–60 mph

2.10s

Car and Driver instrumented test, 2024 Air Sapphire, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Results omit a 1-foot rollout of 0.2 seconds. A 1.9-second run on Sonoma's prepped drag strip is a different test and is not ranked.

Why it's so fast

An electric car makes torque as soon as the motor turns. Top speed is the harder question: how long that push keeps winning against the air, and whether software stops the car first.

  1. Torque without a wait

There is no turbo lag and, on most of these cars, no multi-gear hunt on the way to the ranked speed. The launch and the top speed are still two different problems.

  2. Batteries and software

A battery has to supply the current, and a limiter may cut the run before drag does. The sources say which of those the figure is.

See the Tesla Model S Plaid for a tested electric launch.

This is how the category works. A note written for this entry appears here once it is in the database.

Every measurement

Claimed, measured and official figures side by side, each with its source. The ranked figure is marked.

  1. 330km/h205mph91.6m/s178knRanked figure

Top speed. Lucid states a software-limited top speed of 205 mph for the Air Sapphire. MotorTrend and Car and Driver both print that 205 mph limit. Lucid's 1.89-second 0–60 claim is not the ranked acceleration, which stays Car and Driver's 2.1 seconds.

  3. 9.30sRanked figure

Quarter mile. Same 2024 standard-surface test. Quarter mile 9.3 seconds at 153 mph, omitting a 1-foot rollout of 0.2 seconds. The 9.05-second Sonoma timeslip is not ranked.
